Words for Love

Love 550

Hello love, for you I have so many words.

 -Ben Howard

I have found that sitting practice has enhanced my love for the people, places, and things in my life.

Some of my words for love:

My wife
Old friends
New friends
Wooly bear caterpillars
Alfalfa fields
Balancing rocks
Listening
Feeling heard
My cats
Guitar
Sister
Brothers
Parents
Health
Bare feet kissing the earth
Wind
The sound of water
The sound of crickets at night in between rolling waves of traffic crashing outside the meditation room
Sitting
Taughannock Falls
Metacognition practice, i.e., having found the dharma in this lifetime

Looking up at a meteor shower at the end of an early Simpsons episode, Otto, the school bus driver, remarks, “I don’t need drugs to appreciate this….. Just to enhance it.”

I realize I do not need meditation to love what I see, hear, smell, taste, touch, think, do. Without a doubt, though, meditation has enhanced that love, taken a microscope to it and blown it up a whole bunch.

Through sitting, I find so many new words for love.
