 Introductory Programs

Our center offers a rich array of weekly introductory offerings that are donation-based and open to the public. No prior meditation experience is necessary to attend these, and there is no need to register or phone ahead—please just come! All are welcome. A $5-10 donation is appreciated. If you have questions about any of these events, please email shambhala.berkeley@gmail.com.

Welcome to Shambhala: Every first Sunday, 10:00 – 11:30 AM

“Welcome to Shambhala” is a monthly opportunity for newcomers to learn the practice of meditation from one of our senior instructors. We also explore the connection between meditation and everyday life, introducing the core Shambhala principles of basic goodness and creating enlightened society.

The morning includes an overview of our history, some discussion about our community and path as well as guided meditation. A short tour of our Center is also offered, followed by socializing and refreshments. This is a great way to get a flavor of Shambhala Buddhism and to find out what opportunities there are for practice, study, and community.

Open House: Every Wednesday, 7:00 – 8:30 PM

From 7:00 to 7:45 PM, participants can choose to attend meditation instruction or silent sitting and walking meditation. A reading and group discussion on a particular theme related to the Shambhala and Buddhist teachings follow. Tea and refreshments are offered in the Community Room afterward.
