Windhorse: The Four-Legged Miracle
with Richard John
a Hybrid program (in-person at berkeley Shambhala & online via zoom)
Presented by the berkeley Shambhala Center
“Multiply the power and strength of the virtuous windhorse, the four-legged miracle.”
— Mipham the Great
Windhorse — lungta in Tibetan — is familiar to many as a Shambhala practice for arousing awakened energy. But it is also a mainstay of the traditional Buddhist path. We will study and practice the applications of lungta, from the abrupt arousing of basic goodness to the gradual gathering of awake qualities that bring progress on the path.
The Vidyadhara taught “the four legs of miraculous action” at the 1973 Seminary, and “the four legs of the windhorse” at the 1978 Kalapa Assembly. On the mahamudra path, the four legs are accomplished through the practice of guru yoga, and Mipham Rinpoche refers to “the four-legged miracle” in his famous Invocation for Raising Windhorse.
Since all participants will have received transmission of the stroke of ashe, we will do stroke practice during the retreat.
Prerequisites Participants must be graduates of Warrior Assembly, or vajrayana practitioners who have received pointing-out transmission within the Shambhala mandala.
